6 Daesh / ISIS suspects arrested in southeastern Turkey

Turkish security forces arrested six suspects on Monday for their alleged links to the Daesh / ISIS terrorist group, security sources said.

In a Kahramanmaras-based operation that was carried out simultaneously in Kayseri and Gaziantep provinces, gendarmerie teams arrested suspects operating on behalf of Daesh / ISIS in conflict areas in Syria.

They were identified by the initials SA, AS, HH, EKHEH and AS

It was learned that AS had received training in bomb mechanisms and had been involved in numerous attacks in Aleppo, Syria between 2013 and 2015.

SA, meanwhile, acted as one of the so-called leaders of the organization and engaged in armed activities.

In 2013, Turkey became one of the first countries to declare Daesh / ISIS a terrorist group.

The country has since been attacked by the terrorist group on several occasions, with more than 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide attacks, seven bombings and four armed assaults.

In response, Turkey launched counterterrorism operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
