Civil service review under spotlight for alleged fraud

Authorities have launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities in the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) after public outrage.

People who took the exam last Sunday claimed that some questions and answers, at least 20 of them, were taken directly from a test book published by one of the many future-oriented publishing houses. KPSS participants.

The State Control Commission (DDK) opened an investigation on Wednesday as the head of the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), Halis Aygün, who was in charge of organizing the exam, was sacked on Tuesday by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In an earlier statement, ÖSYM denied any irregularities.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Erdoğan said he would carefully review the data obtained through the DDK investigation and “immediately take necessary action.” “We never allow a single son/daughter to be a victim,” he said in a tweet. DDK chairman Yunus Arıncı was quoted by Turkish media as saying the initial findings indicated a “problematic situation”.

DDK teams will now review an ÖSYM database where questions and answers are chosen for each review while the publishing house will also be surveyed. It is not clear whether the exam will be canceled if irregularities or fraud are detected.

The KPSS is a stepping stone to the public sector for people from all walks of life and covers a wide range of issues from all fields, from culture to geography. However, he is no stranger to irregularities. Güleniste Terror Group (FETÖ) is accused of stealing questions and answers from the 2010 exam. The exam results of a large number of participants linked to FETÖ were canceled after investigations revealed the fraud.
