First snow of the season
Local residents were surprised when the first snow of the season fell on Akdağ in Gömbe district in Kaş, Uludağ in Bursa and Erciyes mountain in Kayseri.
The snow fell at an altitude of 2700m on Akdağ on Friday night and was seen by local shepherd Oğuz Topaloğlu, who took a picture before the snow melted.
The first snow of the season also fell on Uludağ, one of the main centers of winter tourism.
Locals made their way to the top to watch the snowfall, although some were surprised by the temperature which measured below zero.
According to reports, this is the first time residents have seen snow in September. The first snows usually fall in October.
The first snow of the season also fell on Erciyes mountain peaks in Kayseri.
Snow also fell in Erciyes last night where parts of the mountain over 3,000 meters were covered in white blanket. The depth of the snow reached 8 centimeters in some places. In Hacılar, Kıranardı and Hisarcik districts at the foot of the mountain, the temperature dropped to 7 degrees at night.

The bodies of 2 crew members who died in a helicopter crash have been sent to Russia
The bodies of two Russian crew members who came to support the forest fire in the Marmaris district of Muğla and who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the Çardak district of Denizli have been transferred to Antalya.
The bodies, which were received by a consulate official after identification, were transferred to Antalya by a private vehicle, from where they were repatriated to Russia.
Russian flight engineer Aleksandr Yakovlev and flight technician Alexey Volkov lost their lives in a fire helicopter that crashed near Çardak district on Thursday, Turkish national technical staff Ömer Kaan Çakır and Kenan Erdem, citizens Russian captain pilot İlya İvesenkho, flight technician Georgii Onvnvchin and co- pilot Egor Turkov were injured.

Suspect detained in connection with Marmaris wildfire under house arrest
An 85-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the fire that broke out on Thursday in the forest area of Yalancıboğaz district in Muğla’s Marmaris, has been placed under house arrest.
MY, 85, was arrested following the conclusions of the investigation carried out by the gendarmerie command and brought before the Marmaris court.
The suspect has been placed under house arrest due to his age and injuries sustained while attempting to extinguish the fire.
During the investigation, carried out under the coordination of the Marmaris General Prosecutor’s Office to determine the cause of the fire, the gendarmerie teams discovered embers in front of the hives which were determined to belong to MY.
The fire destroyed 500 hectares of forest.

Road accidents kill nearly 1,500 in eight months
According to figures provided by the police, road accidents in the first eight months of this year claimed nearly 1,500 lives.
A total of 313,618 accidents occurred on the country’s roads from January to September, according to the data, with 1,469 people killed in those crashes and more than 188,000 injured.
According to statistics, 1,216 of the crashes resulted in fatalities, 125,704 resulted in injuries, and no injuries or fatalities were reported in 186,698 crashes.
The number of fatal accidents stood at 1,216 in the first eight months of 2022.
According to the report, more than 127,000 road accidents are due to the fault of drivers, while another 14,000 are due to the fault of pedestrians.
Some 600 accidents occurred due to poor road conditions, while passengers were responsible for more than 2,000 accidents. Nearly 3,600 accidents occurred due to vehicle breakdown.
Of the fatal or injured crashes, nearly 57,000 involved one vehicle, over 63,000 involved two vehicles and just over 7,000 involved three or more vehicles.

Turkish Central Bank surprises markets again with 100bp rate cut, lira hits new low
The central bank in Türkiye on Thursday carried out another surprise rate cut of 100 basis points, sending the lira to a historic low, even as inflation exceeded 80% and central banks rushed to globally in the opposite direction and toughened their policies.
The Türkiye lira hit a record high of 18.42 against the dollar, surpassing the level reached during a widespread currency crisis last December. He returned at 6:37 p.m. 12:23 GMT.
Analysts called the monetary easing unsustainable and driven by President Tayyip Erdoğan’s efforts to cut borrowing costs to boost exports and investment, and they predicted further currency depreciation to come. Read more
Last year’s unorthodox rate cuts, along with rising commodity prices, pushed inflation to its highest level in 24 years and sparked a cost-of-living crisis for Turks. Read more
The central bank justified the move by citing continued indications of an economic slowdown, and it reiterated that it expected disinflation, or a deceleration in the rate of inflation, to take hold.
The Türkiye lira has halved in value over the past year, largely due to the policy of cutting rates despite soaring prices.
