Heavy rain expected across the country this weekend

Turkey’s state meteorological service has warned of torrential rains across Turkey, including in Istanbul for the weekend.

Thundery showers are expected in the Marmara, inner parts of the Aegean Sea, western Central Anatolia, inner sections and eastern parts of the Black Sea and parts of Eastern Anatolia.

Heavy rains can also be observed, especially in the central Anatolian provinces of Niğde and Kayseri, the Black Sea province of Ordu and the southeastern provinces of Batman and Siirt.

Weather conditions may cause dense fog in the southeastern provinces of the Marmara region, the inner parts of the western and central Black Sea and the northern parts of the Eastern Anatolia region on weekends , from Friday 14 October.

The bureau forecast that temperatures will not decrease significantly and will be around seasonal normal across the country except for the interior and western parts.

Temperatures in the inner and western parts may gradually decrease, according to forecasts.

The wind is expected to blow strongly from the north and northeast of the Marmara region.

The bureau warned people residing in those areas to stay prepared and exercise caution against falling trees and poles and possible disruptions to transportation service.

There will be cloudy and intermittent showers from noon Friday in the capital Ankara.

The weather in Istanbul will be partly cloudy while local and intermittent showers will be observed from Friday evening.

Showers and intermittent thunderstorms are expected in the western province of Izmir.

Meanwhile, Orhan Şen, a prominent meteorologist, said in a social media post that systematic rainfall will hit the Aegean, Mediterranean and western Black Sea provinces.

Such rainfall will be seen in Marmara provinces from Friday to the end of the weekend, Şen added.
